Gamification Stuff we Love: Climate Change
Because we are working on a learning project in the area of Climate Change one of my challenges this week was to find a round -up of good serious games for climate change as well as gamification campaigns. So far the best of what I have found is the Nasa’s Climate Kids site, which has a vast array of resources for children to play and learn about climate change. Although the target audience for my client is higher than the target age of the group on the Nasa website, some of the materials are both educational, fun and engaging.
I am still on a fact finding mission for more climate change learning games for age groups of 16 and up to PhD level to encourage innovation and sustainability. So when you come across great projects in your travels, please let me know.
In terms of gamification I found the following contenders I like, but then I am sure there are more and the ones we have featured in previous blog posts are obviously on our shortlist.
Carbonstory I like because of it’s simplicity. The objective is to decrease your carbon footprint and promise specific action, which are then rewarded on the the site, with as as a sub-aim to gift aid to projects in developing countries. Elements of gamification and crowd funding are combined to create the best for sustainable change. https://www.carbonstory.org
Handprinter.org allows you to measure first of all your carbon footprint based on data for your country of residence and a number of individual parameters, then they encourage you to also take positive steps and make a positive net impact on the environment with concrete action steps.
There are a lot more projects than these two and the often quoted recyclebank.com so I am reaching out to you to submit your favourites both serious game and gamification examples, where the key focus is improving our environment in a long-term and sustainable way.
