Gamification stuff we love: Genews.io
Genews.io is hoping to stimulate and encourage gender balance in the news. It urges news organisations to examine how many experts and interviews they do with both gender. They have come up with an automated way of tracking how gender balanced a newspaper or other text based publication is. It looks for references of male or female names and words relating to either gender. It then gives a visual representation of how the publication is doing.
At the moment the company is running a beta version of it’s services for the Swedish press. Personally I think it is a positive initiative and gives feedback in a very visual way. Feedback as a tool to motivate action and change is a powerful way to tap into intrinsic motivators, insofar organisations also have the value t want to encourage equality off course and encourage their employees to follow this value. The visual graphs also give a good view to readers and peers, which may well stimulate from the more extrinsic perspective thanks to perception. In gamification that is the true aim of good design.
I am hoping that UK based press would get this look over as well, just like the rest of Europe for that matter.
