Gamification stuff we love: Due Props
During the week of Thanksgiving I wanted to focus in on a thanks giving style gamification platform. Although we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK, giving thanks however is a practise that should be international. From a positive psychology perspective being grateful can assist in balancing out negative or painful experiences as long as the gratitude is truly meant and felt.
Think about this, when is the last time you received heartfelt praise in your job? It doesn’t matter if it came from a colleague or a manager, just anyone you work with? I know in my jobs that was rare. Due Props encourages peer praise as well as management praise in a gamified format. The whole look and feel of the software is game like to start with. You are encouraged to complete challenges and motivate your team.
Here is why the team came up with Due Props:

They have linked it to a monthly pot to be earned as an additional reward, but proportionally related to the amount of Props you receive. Here is how it works:

I like the fact that it shares a positive feeling, it also asks everyone in the organisation to pay attention to what is done well and the praise comes in a fun format. Financial rewards can risk to create an expectation, but by making it proportional and more symbolic, it encourages sharing.
This week our thanks Props goes to all the people that have voted for us in the UK Blog Awards so far (if you haven’t you still can until the 3rd of December 2014), we have no idea how well we are doing, but we sure are grateful for everyone that has made the effort to click on the link and voted.
