It is quite rare to come across an organisation that combines play with also creating energy. Uncharted Play has done exactly that, with their kinetic energy raising ball and skipping rope. The rotation during play creates energy which is harnessed inside the ball and rope and can then be released into a light source after play. The company founder Jessica Matthews designed, the SOCCKET, which is effectively a soccer ball doubling as a socket for power, as part of a class project.
The company partners with brands, multinationals and NGO’s to bring their technology to places where it is needed to stimulate education and where energy is not readily accessible or reliable for everyone.

I love this invention and think it would even be good for all of us to use play creatively for inventions, for design and for creating clean sustainable examples of what can be achieved when great minds are left to roam and explore the possibilities.
